Conference Centre & Open Field

Site History, Planning, Tenure, Viewing & other details

“Farm buildings were located on this site until the early 1990’s and these buildings along with the open land stretching down the hill to the south served as a working farm, with dairy cows and chickens being resident.”

Mill Hill village is the oldest known inhabited part of the district, a ribbon development along the medieval route called ‘The Ridgeway’. Originally part of Middlesex forest, over time, the forest was cleared to provide timber for building, and the area gave way to agricultural use. Farm buildings were located on this site until the early 1990’s and these buildings along with the open land stretching down the hill to the south served as a working farm, with dairy cows and chickens being resident. Produce from the farm was served to the residents of Watch Tower House next door. As the farm operated on only a small scale, eventually it ceased to be a viable and cost effective food supply and so it was closed. The area where the farm buildings were located is now the Kingdom Hall development, and the open field has lain fallow.
