Mary Munnion Quarter and Grace Bartlett Gardens are located in the highly desirable St John’s development off of Wood Street in Chelmsford. The St John’s site was used as a barracks during the Napoleonic War and in 1837 the Chelmsford Union Workhouse was constructed on part of the site. The site then became St John’s Hospital in the 1920’s until it transferred all its services to Broomfield Hospital, making way for the St John’s development. The site has been thoughtfully developed, incorporating new build homes alongside renovated original buildings, creating a truly unique location to live in.
The development is in a popular location being just over a mile south of the centre of Chelmsford, yet only half an hour from London by rail. Chelmsford has undergone a multimillion development in recent years which included a newly developed pedestrianised shopping area featuring a John Lewis department store and many other shops ranging from high street brands to independent boutiques. There are a multitude of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose from.
Should you wish for a more rural setting, you are also close by to charming local villages such as Galleywood and Great Baddow where you can take a peaceful walk or discover one of the local country pubs serving great meals and local ales. The beautiful mansion and grounds of Hylands House is under a ten minute drive away, a beautiful place for a walk, cycle or tea and cake at The Stables Café. In fact, at St Johns you are only ten minutes away from most things!
Chelmsford Rail Station is just over 1.5 miles from St John’s where you can be in Central London in around half an hour. Local bus services stop directly outside the development providing services to the city centre as well as nearby towns and Stansted airport.
This popular commuter base also benefits from good road links providing easy access to the A12, M11 and M25 motorways. Stansted Airport is just 18 miles away by car via the A130/A120.
